Chapter 15 Vocabulary

 

 

1.    INVERTABRATE-an animal without a backbone.

2.    BILATERAL-a body plan in which two halves of an organisms body are minor images of each other.

3.    RADIAL SYMMETRY-a body plan in which the parts of the body are arranged in a circle around a central point.

4.    ASYMETRICAL-without symmetry

5.    GANGLIA-group of nerve cells.

6.    GUT-a pouch where food is digested in animals.

7.    COELOM-a cavity in the body of some animals where the guts and organs are located.

8.    OPEN CIRCLUTORY SYSTEM-a circulatory system consisting of a heart that pumps blood thought spaces called sinuses.

9.    CLOSED CIRCULATORY SYSTEM-a circulatory system in which a heart circulates blood through a network of vessels that forms a closed loop.

  10.SEGEMENTS-one of many identical or almost identical repeating body parts.

11.EXOSKELETON-an external skeleton made of protein and chit tin; found on arthropods.

12.COMPOUND-an eye that is made of many identical, light-sensitive cells that work together.

13.ANTENNA-feelers on an arthropods head that respond to touch, taste, or, smell.

14.Mandible-a jaw found on some arthropods.

15.Metamorphosis- the process in which an insect or other animal change form as it develops from an embryo or larva to an adult.

16.Endocrine-an internal skeleton.

17.Water Vascular System- a system of water pumps and canals found in all echinoderms that allow them to move, eat, and breathe.
